The Poultry Associations' Conference to-day was met by the Secretary of Agriculture. Mr Pope, the Director of lave Stock and Meat. Mr Keakes. and the Assistant Director. Mr Bruce, to whom file various aspects of the poultry industry were pm. The president. Mr S. Brittain, referred especially to the need for wider and fuller dissemination of knowledge regarding poultry and egg-production, work which, he contended, could best be clone by the Department of Agriculture. . The industry was worth a million and a half to the dominion. and, on that ground alone, it was worthy of the Government's attention. * Mr Pope said the Department was entirely in sympathy with the request for more instruction. Mr Keakes said he' was anxious to do what he could to assist the industry. Not much experimental work had been done as yet. but he would he glad if the Conference would offer suggestions in the direction of showing him how useful experiments could be made. Papers dealing with the marketing of poultry and eggs were read. One by Mr W. Hierro. Palmerston North, dealing with centralisation of the egg and poultry market. Mr S. H. Cooper read a survey of the stops to he taken for lie export of eggs. Later, Mr F. •C. Brown. Government Poutry Export, gave a demonstration of grading and packing of eggs for export, so that the afternoon was practically devoted to a discussion as to the relation of the grower to the market and export. In the morning Mr Percy Cusson, o. the Kuakura Government Farm of Instruction. read a paper on “Modern methods of raising chicks." dealing at length with the questions of breeding, feeding and housing.
