.Miss M. Hawke, daug-itor of Mr A. F. Hawke, left for a trip to the old land on Monday. She will be absent for several months. Air Malcolm (toss, a New Zealander, who has written several books of verse and sketches, has published, in London, a passionating book entitled "Climb in the New Zealand Alps." Air A. H. King, who has acted as the Bluff manager of Alessrs John Alill and Co. for the past seven years, lias entered into business on his own account. He will commence business next month. Air C. R. S. Barrett, of the local branch of the National Bank, returned from a trip to Great Britain and the Continent, by Monday’s steamer from Australia. Mr Rowe, of Walkiwi, has been appointed secretary of the Schools’ Cricket Association. Mr F. Lopdell. the late secretary, resigned owing to Ills taking up a University course. Air F. G. Everett, who has been town traveller for Messrs Ross and Glendining’s local branch for .some years, has been promoted to the Dunedin branch and he will be succeeded by Air Hall. The local staff met Air Everett prior to his relimiuishing his present position, and on their behalf Air Dunlop preset ted him with travelling bags for himself and ( Mrs Evei'ett. Many well deserved compliments were paid to the guest of the occasion, and the little function was a very happy one. Air and Airs Everett will leave for Dunedin by the second express to-day.
