Milne's clearing sale at Cllfden, by. the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. —Thursday, March 26,Stock sale at Walkaka. ’ WAILACETOWH STOCK SALE. LATE PRICES WELL MAINTAINED. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS. The fortnightly stock sale held at the Wallacetown yards yesterday was largely patronised by the farming community. Ttie completion of harvest operations permitted members of the agricultural community casing in their operations and awaiting developments in the market before becoming active. Prices for both fat and store cattle wore about the same as those realised at recent sales. The operations on the fat cattle market went up to so high as 30s pei - lOOlbs and fully maintained the prices which have been realised at late markets. The store cattle market showed dullness at the opening, but latterly buyers were inclined to opera, to at the- figures ruling. Dairy cows were good value for animals coming to profit and fat and store sheep sold well up to late quotations. The yardings at Wallacetown for yesterday and the previous sale were as follow; — March 2 1. March 10. There is no change to note in the local grain tnarkcl. Odd lots of wheat and oats continue lo change hands, hut. there ; s no great quantity of (lie former offering and less of oats than wheat. The market is. if anylflHng, slightly weaker in tone, as mind's are buying less freely. There has been,no rush of grain on tlio market this season and there has been little speculation to stimulate business owing to there not being any likelihood of a surplus of wheat for export, and the prospects of shipping oats to Loudon depend largely upon whether cheap freights will be available later in the year. Barley is very dull of sale and there is a considerable quantity of medium and inferior grain on the market which is very difficult to dispose 01. Australia has not required any New Zealand barley for the last two years and this has curtailed the deman.l to such an extent that the dominion crop is more thar sufficient for requirements. H is now very difficult to get more than "s at country stations except for very prime samples, and inferior is being offered so low as 2s and 2s fid. There is no change in the potato market A few sales continue to he made at £- 1 l,s 11 countrv stations, but it is not expected that much forward business will be done till the digging of the main crop is further advanced, as growers are geneially not disposed to sell at present prices. TARANAKI OIL WELLS, DTD. MORE CAPITAL NEEDED. AUCKLAND. March 24. - \ meeting of shareholders in the Tara-naki-Oil Wells, Ltd., was hold this afternoon for tile purpose of receiving the independent report of two Auckland shareholders who were appointed to go to New Plymouth and make investigations as to the position and prospects of the concern. The delegates were Messrs Macklow and College, and they presented an exhaustive report, which emphasises tlio fact that unless the shareholders provide more capital promptly the works must close down and the company be reconstructed. The sum of £10,090 was required at once. Alter carefully considering the -position cud future prospects of the, company, the delegates felt justified in strongly recommending all shareholders to provide

the money as it would be a great pity to let tin- company fail for lack of financial assistance when success is so nearly assured. The report states that it is absolutely necessary that the. head office and board of management should be transferred to Now Zealand, as only 10,000 shares will lie taken up in London. which with 23.001* promoters' shares makes a total of 33,000 in England as against 232,000 held in New Zealand. The delegates found the works almost at a standstill owing to want of funds to pay the men. Mr J. Veale said that he was convinced from his experience in New Plymouth that there, were a certain number of people who were trying to depreciate the value of the company's undertaking, llu-ir object being 1o secure the property at a- nominal price. If the shareholders would see the venture through he was sure they would reap a very great reward. After discussion it was decided that each of the local shareholders with 20 or more shares should advance to the companv by way of loan a sun* of not less Ilian ten )*er coni, on the nominal value of their shares, the amount advanced to be repayable on or before December 31, 1911. and bear interest of HI per cent. It was also resolved to request the advisory board to take any necessary steps to have the board of management transferred from London to Netv Zealand. BUGAS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.--Copyright.
