AN OLD IDENTITY
SOUTHLAND PIONEER’S EXPERI- , ENCES. (Special to the Times). CHRISTCHURCH, October 6. There has just died at Hunterville interesting old man named John Chubbin, aged SS years. He arrived in New Zealand Jn tfle early fifties, and took up a run known as "Reaby.”. near Gore. He was part owner of various duns at different times, at the top end of the Southland district when neighbours were few and far between, and .when the means of transit were about as bad as they could be. His nearest neighbour .In those days was the late Alexander McNab (father of the ex-Minister of Lands). Mr McNab possessed the only bullock team in the country, and but for his lending it to his neighbour, Mr Ghubbin would have been unable to get his wool to Invercargill, 45 miles away. From Gore, Mr Chubbin went to Taranaki, and thence to Hunterville.
