AUCKLAND EXHIBITION
SOUTHLAND EXHIBITS. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, October 6. Notice was given by Mr J. C. Thomson (Wallace) in the House to-night to ask the Prime Minister whether the Government will subsidise the Southland .Provincial Committee in the direction of paying coastal freight in lieu of railway carriage on exhibitsto the Auckland Exhibition, seeing that this concession would be comparatively small? (Note: Southland is the only province to be represented at the Exhibition from the South Island, and the proposed concession in railway carriage would only be from Invercargill to the Bluff. The Union Steamship Company will bring all exhibits back free of charge. The local bodies responded most liberally to the appeal for funds; but these will not he by any means too largo when the full expenses are considered).
