EARTHQUAKES
SHOCKS AT NELSON. (Per United Press Association.) ) NELSON. October 6. Several minor shocks of earthquake, and one fairly severe at 1 a.m., occurred. 1 ’ RECORDED IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, October Q, There was a distant earthquake shock recorded by the Milne seismograph in Wellington on Thursday last. Mr G. Hobden states‘that preliminary tremors reached Wellington at 4 hours 28 minutes 4 2 .seconds, Greenwich, mean civil time (3 hours 50 minutes 42 seconds p.m. New Zealand timel, and long waves 46 minutes 36 seconds later. This would correspond to a distance of 108 to 110 degrees, so that probably the centre was near, or at least within, 125 miles of Colon on the Panama Canal.
