AN INTERESTING JUBILEE.

The jubilee of the Leet Street Methodist Church, which is now being celebrated, is an event of interest to the whole community. Fifty years of age, the Church now looks back to its origin at a time when Invercargill was at the beginning of things, and in the religious and social life of the com-

munity the Leet Street Church has exerted a strong and beneficial influence. In the line of pastors who have occupied its pulpit there have been some quite exceptional men, and all its ministers have been earnest and strenuous workers for good. Apart from the pastorate, the Eeet Street Church has been fortunate in numbering among its lay members many citizens who have made heavy sacrifices of their time in the public service, and who have contributed by their probity and integrity to those qualities of the community which give it strength, solidity and permanence. It would be a difficult task indeed to measure the influence which Methodism has had upon the life of a nation. Prom Methodism there has flowed into the national life an invigorating and cleansing current which has been felt in every department of public activity —in commerce, in literature, in policy and in government. In this small part of the Empire the Leet Street Church has played a worthy and inspiring part, and we join heartily in the congratulations which the congregation will receive on the attainment of its* jubilee.
