MR MALCOLM, M.P.
TOURING HIS CONSTITUENCY - . Mr a; S. Malcolm, M.P. for Clutha, completed a tour of a part of the southern portion of, his electorate, having visited Pine Bush, Tapanui, Niagara, and Slope Point. He held meetings at each place, which were well attended, and was accorded votes of thanks and confidence In the Ministry. At Slope Point he discussed with the settlers the formation of a special rating area and the raising of £ISOO for the formation and metalling of the Haldane road. He expressed the opinion that, if that sum were raised in the district, the Government would subsidise It £ for £. This would enable a road to he constructed that would be of a permanent nature, and would effectually settle a muchvexed question, which had been a stumbling block to the settlers for many years. Mr Malcolm has been in communication with the Prime Minister and the Hon. W. Hi Herrles, Minister of Railways, in regard to the restoration of the Walmahaka-Tokonul dally train service, but so far has not received a definite reply, the matter’ being stin under consideration. Mr Malcolm is quit* satisfied that the service is not only necessary, but warranted, and is of opinion that the engine shed, and other necessary railway buildings, should be shifted fro in "Walrrrah aka to Tekonni.
