There was a large yarding of fat cattle at Burnside to-day. 185 being penned, consisting principally of cows and heifers. Competition was fairly keen, but prices were 10s per head lower than those ruling last week. Best bullocks, £l3 os to £l4; good, £lO 10s to £l2; medium, £8 to £9; best cows and heifers. £lO to £ll 10s: good, £8 to £9 ss; medium, £6 15s to £7 10s. There was a good-sized yarding of fat sheep, 2706 being penned. The entry included a good proportion of good duality sheep. Freezing buyers had limits reduced, and consequently competition was almost entirely confined to butchers. Prices were about Is lower than last week’s rates. Best wethers, to 23s 3d; good, ISs to 21s 6d; medium, 16s to 17s 6d; extra heavy ewes, to 24s 9d ; heavy, ISs (id to 22s 6d; medium, 1-s L °1606 fat lambs were penned. There were large entries of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle sold at previous weeks’ rates. Fat lambs were easier in consequence of the rush of stock at the freezing works. Store sheep sold well, especially ewes; lambs, except forward lots, being a little easier. Fat sheep were irregular, but sold at about last week's prices. Fat cattle were without change in prices. There was a large entry of fat lambs, totalling 7749, the hulk being well grown and of prime quality. Prices paid were about equal to 5d to s'dd per lb. Best lambs made 16s to 19s 7d: a few extra, to 21s; lighter. 13s 3d to 15s 6d. There were about 1000 fat sheep penned, made up ehieflv of ewes, with a few pens of prime’ wethers, and several lines of merino wethers. The range of prices was:—Prime wethers, ISs to 2ls lid : lighter. Ms 7d to 17s 6d; merino wethers. 12s to 15s; extra prime ewes, to 245; prime, 16s to 2ls; medium, 13s 8d to 15s 6d; aged and light, 10s to 13s. There was an entry of 252 fat cattle, as compared with 194 last week. Prices showed no change, being equal to 22s 6d to 30s per lOOlbs. according to quality. Steers made £8 to £l3 7s 6d: heifers, £6 to £lO ss; and cows, £5 17s 6d to £lO 12s 6d. Store cattle formed a fair yarding. but prices were easier: 15 to 18months sorts made £3 to £3 lis; 2-year steers. £4 6s: 2 u.-year steers, £5 12s 6d; 2-year heifers. £3 10s to £4 2s 6d: 3year heifers. £5 to £5 7s 6d; and dry cows, 35s to £5. Dairy cow-s made £4 10s to £ll ss. There was a medium entry of fat pigs, but a good demand, and the prices from last week were maintained. Choppers ran from £3 10s to £5; baconers. 50s to 555; heavy pigs. 57s 6d to 70s. Prices equalled 5d to s’4d per lb. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright). LONDON, March 11. At the wool sales there was a large and representative attendance, a strong market, and rather firmer prices. Shares are unaltered. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following cablegram from their London office, under date of the 11th Inst. As compared with last sale's closing rates, prices are higher about par to 5 per cent, for lambs, greasy merino super, coarse scoured crossbred, scoured merino super, and scoured merino medium : about the same for greasymerino medium, scoured merino inferior, medium scoured crossbred, fine greasy crossbred, medium greasy crossbred, and fine scoured crossbred: about 3 per cent, higher for crossbred slipe, and about 5 per cent, to 7Vz per cent, higher for crossbred lambs, and coarse greasy crossbred; but lower about par to 5 per cent, for greasy merino inferior. The demand still continues, though not quite so brisk.
