Received January 14, 11.45 p.m. The Minister for Public Works promised a Chamber of Commerce deputation to recommend the Cabinet to protect shippers, who are wishing for an un-fettered shipping agreement. General Hertzog’s speech Is regarded as widening the breach with the Hon. L. Botha. The latter’s followers bitterly resent the attack, but Mr Botha is repressing demonstrations In ills favour. He insisted on silence until Parliament meets.
