RIFLE SHOOTING
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. WANGANUI, November 28. The North Island Championship Rifle Meeting was concluded op Saturday, when a troublesome wind was blowing. Private Loveday, of the Ninth Regiment, headed the aggregate, winning the champion belt, a medal, and £B. His score was 289. This is the third year in succession in whicli the belt has been carried off by a youth. Last year it was King (Wanganui), and the previous year Hunt (Wellington). This is the fifth occasion in the last year or so that Loveday had topped the aggregate list. He is a most promising shot. The Manawatu Match was won by McNeill (Tekapua) who scored 47 and took £3. R. Hunt (Suburbs) was second, with 46, and took £1 15s. The following took £1 each with a score ot 46:—Mclvor (Suburbs). Loveday (Ninth Regiment), Franklin (Weber). Banks (Kimbolton), and Thomas (Petone). In snap shooting Delhi (Dannevirkc) took £2, Mclvor and Hunt (Suburbs), £1 5s each. In the cover match, seven shots at 300 yards, Ballinger and Hartwell tied with seven hits each, and took 35s each. The Wanganui Rifle Club won the Teams’ Match. The grand aggregate was: Private Loveday (Ninth Regiment) 289. Franklin (Weber) 28 3, Diehl (Dannevirke) 2SI, Soler (Wanganui Rifles) and Mclvor (Suburbs) 279. WELLINGTON MEETING. WELLINGTON, December 28. Large entries have already been received for the Wellington Rifle Association’s New Year meeting. Competitors will include many of the leading shots in the Dominion, including the veteran Arthur Ballinger, three times champion of New Zealand, Loveday, the present champion, and Wood, of Christchurch. Last year’s rurmer-up Milroy. of Nelson, and King and Hyde. Opaki cracks, arc also entered. There Is also a good entry from senior cadets.
