AN INQUIRY.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l have not been long in New Zealand, and do not know much, but I have been wondering why Mr Hanan has not come for re-election, since he has been made a Minister of.the Crown. I am 70 years old and wherever I have been before that would have been done before he would be allowed to act. —1 am, etc., TIMBER. f“ Timber” has evidently not lived long in Now Zealand. In Britain, in some cases a member'of the House of Commons who is promoted to Cabinet rank is required to resign his seat and go before his constituents for re-elec-tion. In New Zealand the practice is different. A member who joins the Ministry takes his seat in the Cabinet as a matter of course without submitting himself to his electorate.—Ed. S.T.]
