At the Parish Hall, Gladstone, on 'Wednesday evening, a social was tendered to Miss Witty, of Colllngwood, who lias been very active in matters connected with All Saints’ Church, and who is to bo married shortly. Miss Witty received, several useful household articles from her church friends, the presentation being made by Mr It. Cooper, The Rev. W. Swinlnirn was the recipient of a travelling hag from the members of Christ’s Church, Clifton mi Sunday evening la-t, to mark his removal to the Bluff Parish. Mr C. Borne made the presentation. Mr A. W. .lours, who is to be married on Wednesday next, was the recipient of three pie-eniailons this week. On Sunday afternoon, lie received a gold-mounted fountain pen from the members of 'the Voting Men’s Bible Class, Hirst Church, the presentation being made by Mr W. McCnw. On I Wednesday evening, the •icmbers of the Court Cjuoen of the South Hodge I presented him with a- lambic clod:, lie ! having occupied tire position of secretary for some time. On Thursday evening, lie received a wicker chair from the members of the Court Star of the South Hodge, in which institution be had been Chief Ranger. Brother C. Patou, P.C.R.; made this presentation. Mr T. E. Ncave has resigned his position as assistant Crown Haw Officer in order to enter private practice of Ills profession in Wellington. Arrivals in town include Mr and Mrs Hyons. Miss Hardinge, Mr and Mrs Korsyth-.Johnson (Dunedin). Miss Pring, Mr Warren (Queenstown), and .Mr and Mrs J. H. Morrison -(.Wellington). Sir George Gifford, at the invitation of Herd Ranfurly and his colleagues, lias (says a New Plymouth telegram) decided, after paying a visit of inspection to the oil wells at Mourtoroa. to join the Board of Directors of the Taranaki Oil Wells, Ltd. Superintendent Brel:, of the Christchurch Hire Brigade, lias resigned, and at.a meeting of the Hire Board last night it was decided to accept his resignation. It is understood that differences of opinion between the Board and Mr Krok led to him resigning. Mr Krek. who came from Melbourne, has been in charge of the Christchurch Hire Brigade for the past three years.—Press Association.
