Receiver] March 29, 11.25 p.m. The Conciliation Bill was.rejected by 222 to 208. a group of 41 Nationalists opposing it in order to save the Government a Week of Parliamentary time* The Laboui; party. Messrs Eloyd-George, Birrell. Burns, Runcirhan. Bonar Law, Balfour. Lyttelton. Wyndharn. O'Brien and Kcaly supported : Messrs Harcourt, Hobhouse. McKenna. Buxton. Churchill, Chamberlain. Smith. Baicarrcs and Peas# opposed. Liberal supporters of ti'.e Bill bitterly resent the Nationalists’ action. Opponents of the Bill waved hat*, hands and handkerchiefs and shouted, the scene recalling the defeat of a Government. , The Premier said that the natural distinction of sex. which was based on the different functions of men and women, ought to continue to be recognised in th» political sphere. There was no evidence of a change being desired. ,Sir Edward Grey said it was unfair to penalise a large majority of women by withholding the vote owing to militant outbreaks. Industrial questions would absorb more and more .the attention of Parliament and it was impossible to exclude women from exercising an influence in such, questions. Many women denionsirated outside the House of Commons, and there was a great meeting in the Albert Hall. Mrs Pethick Lawrence received a inpturoua reception. The sum of £10,50(1 ha« been collected•including five sums of £IOOO each. SEALING WITH LEASERS. LONDON. March 2?. In connection with the suffragette conspiracy Mrs Pethick Lawrence and Mrs Pankhurst have been committed for trial, but Mrs Tuke has been discharged. Mrs Pethick Lawrence was allowed bail oh undertaking to be quiescent pending trial.
