NOTES ON THE RACING. (Special to the ‘'Times.") CHRISTCHURCH, November 11. In the Members’ Handicap Hermls caused a lot of trouble at the start, and ifter breaking the tapes three times, was sent back to the paddock by the steward In charge at the start. When the field was sent away Equitas was quickest tc begin, with Nyland and Byron next, while Dazzling got bumped on to the rails and Longstep was left several lengths. With two furlongs gone Equitas was still showing the way to Nyland and Byron, Floater being at the head of the others. Coming round the turn the order of the first three was unchanged, they being well clear of Avarice and Ireland. When the straight was reached Byron had taken second place, but Equitas was going along well in front and she maintained her advantage to the finish, winning by two lengths. Ireland, who shot out inside the distance was a length and a-half behind Byron, with Nyland a length back fourth, followed by Medallist, Dazzling, and Floater. Time, Imin 29;-;ec. In the G. G, Stead Memorial Cup race Mi-count jumped away in the lead, with Dos Angelos next, and with Vice-Admiral bringing up the rear. Going towards tire mile post, Miscount was in front, with Los Angelos, Counterfeit. Madam Madcap, St. Petersburg, and Vice-Admiral following in that order. There was no change in that order along the back, Vice-Admiral bringing up the rear a long way off. Rounding the turn Miscount had Madam Madcap as his nearest attendant. Conn'erfeit headed him and flni'hinnr in brilliant stylo won by two lengths. ViceAdmiral, who came with a great run in the straight, was two lengths behind. THE V.R.C. MEETING CONCLUDED. A VICTORY FOR TRAFALGAR. MELBOURNE, November 11. Received November 12, 6.45 p.m.. The attendance at the V.R.C. Spring meeting to-day constituted a record for the last day, being several thousand better than the previous best. No exception could be taken to the weather, which was cool and bright. The principal interest in the day’s good all-round racing centred in the struggle between Malt King, Trafalgar and Comedy King. The Wallace horse (Trafalgar) had a host of friends, but they were afraid that Malt King coming in fresh and well after Trafalgar and Comedy King's hard work, would triumph. The race, however, proved the best of good things for Trafalgar, who maintained the lead in a slow race for the first mile and a quarter, and, after gaining the straight, ran away from the field and won amidst ringing cheers. Results: — SPRING HANDICAP, of 300 sovs (one mile and a-quarter)—Orvleto, 7.11, 1; Nyan, 5.7, 2; Elvanite, 7.13, 3. Other starters—Sanskrit, Radiator, St. Abbo, Ecuador. Elvanite led to the home turn, but Orvleto easily cut him down and won by a length and a-half, threequarters of a length between second and third. Time, 2min Bsec. At six furlongs Trafalgar held a three lengths lead from Lady Medallist, with Comedy King half a length away. Later on Comedy King made a run followed by Malt King, but the chase was hopeless, and Trafalgar won by four lengths. Time. 2min 37-y t sec. Lord Emms led all the way to the second last fence where he fell. Alert Dream had in the tneantlrrte made up a lot of ground and the accident enabled him to go on and win by eight lengths, twelve lengths between second and third.
