rULI>£SS' PICTUBESCrowded houses wore in evidence at the Zoalandia Hall for the two Saturday shoves. At the Matinee the attendance was probably the largest since the institution of the afternoon exhibition. Tonight, being change night, an entirely new programme will be shown. The series selected seems to be a varied one. Drama has for its chief representative "The Switchman’s Tower,” which is. as its title implies, the story of an act of railroad heroism. The acting and the setting arc said to bo above the average. By tlio Melbourne mail comes a film of the great Melbourne Cup run last week. This will enable local sports to follow in detail the various incidents connected with the big event at Flemlngton wdiich drew a record crowd from all parts of Australasia. “The Jumping Brothers” is ono of those popular vaudeville turns which lend themselves so well to cinematograph reproduction. • Another picture that should attract general attention is that which has for a subject Burgess’s great 'Channel Swim. It is claimed that the picture gives a better idea cf what happened than any that could have been obtained from the shore. The usual heavy bill accompanies the subjects mentioned. , i THE LYCEUM, Splendid attendances on Saturday afternoon and night provided a satisfactory finish to the already successful ween. The programme was followed with manifest enjoyment, some of the items being particularly good. To-night the pictorial specialty will he a companion picture to the "Navy” scries screened last week, entitled "Our Army.” Tliis subject is over 4000 feet in length, and, it is said, deals exhaustively with the military side of our Empire's defence system. The picture is from the hands of the same producer, Mr Alf. West, and a pictorial ami educational feast may thus be reasonably anticipated. Expressions of disappointment have reached the management regarding tiio fact that the "Navy" series was not retained longer, and patrons arc reminded that "Our Army” will lie screened for three nights only, commencing tonight. In addition to the speciality, the programme is said to contain some choice items, among the number being the "Melbourne Cup,’’ won by "The Parisian” on Tuesday last. The “Cachou” competition is arousing keen interest, and, it is said that some elaborate calculations have been made and submitted to the management.
