THE TRAMWAY REGULATIONS
THE DEPARTMENT’S LETTER. Following is the letter which was sent by the Under-Secretary of. Public Works to those local bodies which received draft copies of the now notorious proposed tramway regulations:— “1 have the honour by direction of the Minister of Public Works to forward herewith for perusal a copy in draft form of additional regulations proposed to be issued under the provisions of the Tramways Amendment Act. 1910. The regulations relate to the inspection and licensing of cars, the limiting of overcrowding, furnishing and equipment of cars, the limiting of speed at which cars may travel, and to other matters. The Minister would be glad to receive as early as possible any comments or suggestions which you may desire to make concerning the proposed regulations so that the same may‘be duly considered before the regulations are submitted to His Excellency the Governor for signature. The Minister would also be much obliged if the matter could be regarded as confidential until the regulations have been reconsidered after the receipt of any communication or suggestions that may he received from local authorities thereon. Unless a reply is received from you on or before 31st inst. the Minister will conclude that you have no remark or suggest ions to make.”
