A CHILBLAIN CURE. Mr R. W. Jones, storekeeper, Caruma, Vic., says that Chamberlain’s Pain Balm cured his chilblains and wants everyone to know It. "I had one chilblain on my foot that w r as so big that I could not wear my boot. In fact I could only wear my slipper by slitting it along the front. I used Chamberlain’s Balm one night and the next day was agreeably surprised to find that I could wear my boot with comfort.” Sold everywh ere. • Some cargo , of the steamer Nairnshire was damaged by water on the voyage from Liverpool to Auckland. The vessel encountered terrific weather for the greater part of the voyage, gale after gale being experienced. Two days before sighting the Cape of Good Hope the Nairnshire met the first of the heavy weather, a strong gale, accompanied by high head seas, being experienced. Huge seas broke on board, and carried away forecastle head spars, stanchions, and doors. On July 4, while running down the easting, the vessel ran Into a hurricane, which lasted for two days, during which heavy seas were shipped fore and aft, which caused slight damage to deck fittings. The vessel’s troublesome times were not yet over, as on June 19 she encountered another gale, and at times she rolled to an angle of 40 degrees. It Is surmised that owing to the decks being continually flooded the water found its way beneath the hatch covers into the hold. The cargo In No. 1 hold, which consists principally of spirits, paper and hardware, is not damaged to any great extent. PATENTS THAT FAT. Patents for small articles usually pay better than those' for great schemes. Such simple things as rubber-heels, barbed wire, points of screws, hair-pins, rubber tips to pencils, collar studs, simple toys, have landed the patentees enormous fortunes. Messrs Baldwin and Rayward, whose local representative is Mr J. F. Lillicrap (Hall, Stout and LII- - Esk street, can give you sound advice on any matters pertaining to patents.
