BOROUGH COUNCIL REPORTS

Following are the reports to be presented to tlie Borough Council at its meeting this evening ; PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The Committee recommend: —(l> That the matter of carrying out some necessary repairs to the Fire Brigade Superintendent's house in Esk street be left in the hands of the Mayor and the Town Engineer to give effect to. U) That the offer of Mr J. Hatch to supply 500 fivegallon oil drums at sVfcd eacli be accepted ; the drums to bo delivered in the Corporation yard or where desired and subject to the appro'H of the Sanitary Inspector. (3) That offers be invited up to Thursday, 20th inst., for fixing handles and lids at per tin on 500 tins. Tenderers to submit designs and full particulars with price. The Committee report :—(4) That the tool-house at the Cemetery lias been totally destroyed by fire, and recommend that the suggestion of the gardener with regard to storage for tools lie agreed to, the work to be left in the hands of the Town Engineer. (5) That the claim of G. Driscoll, Sexton's assistant, for £2 15s, being value of clothes destroyed in the fire, be paid. (6) That they favour the Corporation undertaking the whole of the drain-laying in the Borough and recommend that the Town Engineer prepare standard plans with a scale of charges to include testing, etc., the District Health Officer to be informed accordingly. (7) That the complaint of the Railway Engineer with respect to the height of the hedge at the Railway crossing is being attended to by the Engineer. (S) Witli reference to the complaint from Mr W. G. Hartle in respect to the condition of Crlium street at its junction with Annan street, report that the Railway Department have agreed to make certain repairs at the crossing where it happens to bo very bad. (9) That tire communication from Broad, Small and Co. is still under consideration. (10) That tire application of W. Robison to cover in a drain in Wellesley is held over in tire meantime. The Committee report:—(l) Having conferred with tire Town Engineer, Gardener, and Mr E. R. Wilson, and recommend chat the plan submitted by Mr Wilson be approved in so far as it relates to beautifying tire Gala street Reserves and the main Central Avenue in tire Park ; lire Committee will report as soon as possible regarding Albert •.Square and other portions of the Park. Tire Committee recommend;—(?) That application be made to tire Education authorities for an entrance to Coronation Avenue from Herbert street. (3)

That the Town Engineer be instructed to report as to the cost of the necessary grading and filling in in the Gala street Reserve (each block to be shown separately), also the grading, etc., of Coro- s nation Avenue in the Park proper. (4) That the Standard Insurance Co, owners ] of five chains, and Mr E. B. McKay, owner of three chains, fronting Robertson street, Invercargill East, be offered sixty-five pounds (£65) and forty-five , pounds (£45) respectively without pre- | judice for a strip of land sixteen feet : six indies wide for street widening pur- [ poses. • The Committee report :—(5) That in . view of tlie urgent need of metal for the streets, having authorised the Mayor to procure 200 tons of 2%-inch broken metal from Logan's Point. 1 GAS AND WATER COMMITTEE. The Committee report : —(1) Having accepted the tender of Messrs Briscoe | and Co. for 10 tons of 3-lnch cast iron | mains at £9 per ton, delivery on the ; 17th inst., and of Messrs Carswell and ; Co. for 10 tons at £7 per ton, delivery in ; three monthfj time. (2) Having examined requisition for supplies for the , Gasworks amounting to £164 16s 6d, ; and for the Waterworks £l3 19s 2d, and ; recommend that they be authorised. j FINANCE .COMMITTEE, : The Committee recommend: —(1) That : Mr A B. Campbell be Informed that the ! removal of the bank in the river chan- ; nel will be proceeded with immediately the dredge arrives. (2) That tenders be nvited locally and In Bluff and Riverton . or the supply and delivery of rubble for reclamation purposes, the Town ■ Engineer to be Instructed to prepare the necessary specifications. (3) That the Sanitary fees, amounting to 8s 6d, owing by a widow left destitute, be remitted. (4) That the requisition for goods for reclamation works, amounting to approximately £lO, be approved. The Committee report : —(5) That the communication from Mr Amos McKegg is still under consideration. (6) Having examined accounts amounting to £10,154 ( 17s 9d, and recommend the payment of same. SPECIAL TRAMS COMMITTEE. The Committee recommend; —(1) That alternative tenders be invited for 200 circular and upright signs in enamelled iron and stamped zinc, for stopping places on the Tramway lines. (2) That the suggestion of the Tramway Engineer to Install a fire alarm In the car-shed be approved. (3) That two waggons for conveving metal similar to those now in use be procured from Mr James Macallster, at a total cost of £230. The question of arranging for, and ordering same to be left in the hands of the Mayor to act. (4) That the circular from tire Under-Secretary of Public Works Department containing proposed regulations relating to the Tramways be left in the hands of the Mayor and Tramways Engineer to act. The Committee report : —(5) That owing to a large amount of damage having been done to, the buildings now in course of erection, recommend that It be publicly notified that action will be taken against anyone found trespassing on the buildings or grounds.
