ENTERTAINMENTS.

PULLER’S PICTURES. A good "house” was in evidence at the Zealandia Hail last night when the current ' programme was shown for the second time. Although the University Heat Race was rowed only on April Ist Just this world famous event may now be seen in Invercargill. This promptitude exemplifies the bustle and keenness of competition which are necessary to the success of a picture proprietary nowadays. All the subjects are well presented and some of them appear to have reached perfection in the art of cinematography. The dramatic films j.re selected from the very best of the many productions of the various firms, consequently they are all of a high standard, both in acting and in accuracy of detail. To-day the usual matinee will be held and to-night the programme will he shown for the last time.

HATWiBD'S PICTURES. The new programme of Hayward's Pictures shown at the Lyceum Theatre for the second time last night contains several excellent scenic films. “Cognac and the Liver Charente” combines pretty river scenes with interesting Views of the various processes that go To the making’ of brandy. The views of ■'The Park of Caserta” were taken by special permission of the King of Italy and are a very beautiful series of pictures. Of tile dramatic studies the representation of Hubert Browning's "Pippa Passes” is worthy of special mention (inf.te apart from the curious arrangement of the advertisement which classes it a.s a "scenic”;. "Mike the Jii-er" is an affecting story which obviously touched the feelings of a large section of tlie spectators. The programme is pleasantly varied with humorous pictures, and the celebrated song "Queen of the Kuril:.” by Mr H. Richards, is u jdeasant feature of the programme. KING’S HALE RINK. At the King's Hull Pink skating has low worked into a steady groove In the natter of attendances, and each night almost invariably witnesses a decidedly larger number of patrons than its predecessor. All three sessions on Friday were well attended, particularly the evening one, when the skating space was well filled and an enjoyable time was spent, excellent music being supplied by the Dominion Band. Skating is apparently a pastime which has its attractions for the spectator as well as the active participant, and large numbers ei the former attend at the various sessions at tlio King's Hall throughout the week. Intending competitors are reminded of the forthcoming Coronation Festival, entries for which are now being received. The sum of £2O will he placed on the prize list for the competitions to bo decided on June 22 and 23. The first Grand March rehearsal in connection with the Festival will take place on Friday of next week at 7 p.m. Today the children’s matinee will be held at 10 a.m., afternoon and evening sessions being observed also.
