Mr Justice Cooper, accompanied by Mrs and Hie Misses Cooper, left Lyttelton for Britain by the Kent on Saturday evening. His Honour, who lias not been to England since he arrived in New' Zealand forty-six years ago, will return early in 1912. Mr E. J. Felton, general manager of the Queensland Insurance Company, is on a visit to New Zealand. He is accompanied on his tour by Mr A. D. Abercrombie, of Wellington, manager for the company in New Zealand. A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the Roman Catholic Basilica, Tyne street, yesterday morning, when Annie Jane, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs James O’Neil, of Tisbury, was married to John Patrick, eldest son of the late Arthur Kerr, of Morton Mains. The ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. Dean Burke. Tlie parents of tlie bride and bridegroom are well-known residents of the Southland district, where they have resided for many years. After the marriage ceremony the guests retired to the residence of the bride’s parents, where many pleasant hours were spent in games and dancing until an early hour this morning, when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” and cheers for the bride and bridegroom brought proceedings to a close. The present from various friends and relations of the happy couple were numerous and costly and included many cheques. Mr J. W. H. Bannerman, w'ho has been a member of the literary staff of the Southland Daily News for. the past three years, has taken over control of the Bluff Publishing Co., Ltd., -which recently acquired the rights of the Bluff Press. It is the Intention of the company to enlarge the Bluff Press, and to publish It as a twice-weekly paper'in future. Mr Bannerman has been a. wellknown figure in athletic circles in Invercargill, but It is not expected that his new duties wilL necessarily mean a severance of his connection with local clubs. A London cable states that the late Charles Werthiemer’s estate totals about £750,000. After bequests of £40,000 each to his grandchildren, the residue, estimated at half a million, goes to chariHes, including the Jewish Board of Guardians, who get a quarter of a million. A cable from Ottawa reports the death of Sir Charles Pelletier, Lieut.Governor of Quebec.
