THE DROUGHT
(Per United Press Association). TIMARU, March 21. This morning was very hot, equal to mid-summer, and the afternoon was sultry with a light nor’-wester. The country Is parched and it is feared that rain will *be too late now to do much good, as frosts are sure to follow any decided change. In some parts of the district settlers have to cart water. BEEFTON, March 21. ; A light shower* has been the only re- " lief from the drought, which is the worst for many years. Little growth is now coming on.
