FIRES.
(Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, March 15. About 4 p.m. to-day the residence at Bulls of Mr John Stevens, late M.P. for Rangitikei, was burned. All that could be saved was a piano and a couch from the drawing-room, which opened on to the verandah, and some books and papers. It is feared that Mr Stevens’ valuable collections of old documents and papers relating to native and district history have been wholly destroyed. The building was a fine one. The insurance was £6OO on the building and £3OO on the furniture.
