MEETING or MOTOR CYCLISTS. A meeting of motor cyclists was held in Allen's Rooms last night to consider the* proposal to form a motor-cyclists section under the auspices of the Southland .Motor Association. There were present: Messrs O. J. Wilson, A. Hancock, W. von Tuiv/.leman. W. Compton, Finlayvjoii C. Pearson, G. Foothead. Jackson. (’. H. Fames, J. Milroy, H. Ilodgkinson, and A. Howie. Mr Wilson was elected chairman. The secretary of the Motor Association (Mr A. A. Paape) explained that his executive committee was entirely in favour of the idea of forming a motorcyclist section and thought that such a stop would be for the benefit of all concerned. The rules of the Association, In mentioned, had been .'ct ised to •’•droit representatives of hie motor trade as members. The chairman said that he thought that it was highly desirable that a motor cycle section should be formed; and in his opinion the first step should be to appoint a committee. Ho mentioned that Mr Compton, secretary of the Timat n Motor Cyclists' Club, was present at the meeting, and would be prepared to give them the benefit of his experience. The following sub-committee of amateur riders was appointed: Messrs E. A. Phillips, PI. Hodgson, A. K. Moffett, J. Milroy, W. G. Compton. C. H. Eiur.es, W. A. Saunders. Forbes Kadie, A. Gray, and O. M. Adams. The sub-committee will draw up such rules and regulations as are thought to be necessary, and will take steps to have representatives of cycle trades appointed as vice-presidoii'.s The secretary was instructed to write to the Canterbury, .Souhi Canterbury, Wellington, and Dmmdiu Motor Cycio Clubs for copies of their rules. Air Compton submitted samples of entry form and competitor's card, and explained the method of entering the competitor’s time, weight, and weight of machine on same, so that tiic infoimation necessary for working out the formula on which the competitions are judged may be readily available. Various conditions for tlie control of of the hill climbing competitions were considered and adopted. It was decided to have three classes in the contest as follows: —(a) Open Class, including trade representatives; (b) Open Light-weight Class; (c) Open Class (for any machine) excluding trade riders. Mr Milroy’s offer of a donation of £1 Is for tlie open competition (for professional and amateur riders; Messrs Gaudin and Marr’s donation of £1 Is for the amateur competition; and Messrs Wilson, Fraser and Co.'s donation of a lamp (valued at £2 ss), or a gold medal if preferred, for :.ie rider making the fastest time, wore acknowledged with thanks. wsetaoi etaoi etaoi etaoi etaoin etaoi An entrance fee of 3s 6d will be charged for all entries, the proceeds to be devoted to the funds of the motor ejele section of the Motor Association. Messrs Hodgson, Milroy. and Paape were appointed as a committee to interview representatives of the trade with, a view to securing further trophies, and were authorised to allot them to the various classes. The hill - climbing competition will bo started at 4 p.ni.. and before the mooting concluded some 30 entries were received for the different competitions. Arrangernen|s were made for the appointment of officials to control the contests. and Mr Hodgson was unanimously appointed to the position of captain, with a view to carrying into effect the definite intention of the Committee to regulate the pace of motor cyclists during the run on Ist February.
