ABOUT PEOPLE.

Mr A. E. Parker, who for the past twelve months has been accountant at the Invercargill branch of the Union Bank, has been promoted to a similar position in the Christchurch branch, and will leave for the North to-morrow. He will be succeeded by Mr Hudson, from the bank's Auckland branch. Mr Parker lias been a keen member of the Invercargill Golf Club, and during his stay in Invercargill lias made numerous friends who, while congratulating him on his promotion, will regret to hear of his departure from the town. A good many people in Invercargill will be interested to hear that Mr Stuart Reid, the promising young Dunedin artist. who is well known here and is just now studying in the old world, lias been successful in placing a drawing with the London “Sketch" and has been asked for further contributions. As the "Sketch'’ is one of the leading papers in London for black and white drawing, Mr Reid is to be congratulated on having early made good. Tlie London “Express” states that the Duke of Connaught will be Regent while tlie King visits India; hence ins leaving for Canada is impossible. A Paris cable slates that tlie Academy of Science by 30 votes to 38, rejected the election of Madame Currie to membership.
