FIRES.
(Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, Jan. 23. Stables attached to the Provincial Hotel at Upper Hutt were destroyed by fire during Saturday night. Amongst the Inmates was Zealand, who had won the Ruapehu Handicap at Trentham during the afternoon, but Mr Buick's gelding was got out uninjured. A hack racer belonging to Mr Vavasour, of Blenheim, was suffocated.
