'After the meeting of the Southland Medical Association yesterday evening, at the Southland Hospital Hoard-room, Dr. Hendry took occasion to say goodbye (as resident surgeon) to the other doctors who acted on the honorary stalf of the Southland Hospital, in the course of some remarks in the obliging manner la which the lion, members of the stalf had always assisted him. Ur. Hendry staged that there had not. dining his ten years’ service in the hospital, been any friction of any sort between him and any of Hie lion, members of the staff, despite announcements made to the contrary by a member of the Hospital . Board. In reply Dr. Cantrell endorsed the statement that the relationship between the hospital surgeon and th£ outside medical men who acted as the honorary staff had always been of the* most cordial nature. He added that the hon. members had been frequently Indebted to Dr. Hendry for kindnesses In the matter of dealing with awkward cases, and he congratulated him on the phenomenal success which had attended his operations in the matter of wounds healing at first intention. Drs. Snow anct Macdonald endorsed Dr. Cantrell's statements, and all three, together with Drs. Stewart and Pottinger, joined in wishing Dr. Hendry success in his venture into private general practice. A special meeting of the Directors of the Southland Caledonian Society was held last evening to bid farewell to Mr N.' J. Keane. The president (Mr .1. Mathieson) occupied the chair and proposed the health of the guest of the evening, whom he referred to as an enthusiastic official, and one who had stink to.the Society through many troubles in regard to the question of athletic control. The speaker wished Mr Keane success In his future sphere, of usefulness- .in Christchurch. The chairman's remarks in regard to Mr Keane were heartily endorsed by Lieut.-col. Thomson and Messrs U. Taylor, K. Hastie, J. Loudon, .T. Holloway, W. Timpany. J. Walker, and O. Taylor.—Replying Mr Keane thanked all for their good wishes and said that the few years he had spent in Southland had proved an education to him. owing to the class of warm-nearted men and sportsmen he had come in contact with. Among the Directors.of the Society lie had made friends for life, and if he ever returned to Invercargill, which lie hoped to do at New Year time, lie would hold out his hand to many old and dear friends. lIS conclusion he thanked the Directors for the honour done him by calling a special meeting in his favour.—A sochil hour was spent prior to the closing of an entertaining evening. Yesterday evening also there was a representative gathering of Association footballers, including delegates from the Invercargill. Bluff, Celtic, and Nightcaps Clubs, for the purpose of bidding good-bye to Mr Keane. .As a token of the esteem in which the sometime president of the Invercargill A. F. C. was held he was presented with .a valuable pearl pendant lor Mrs Keane, and the health of the guest and his better half was drunk with musical honours.— Mr Keane suitably responded on behalf of himself and Mrs Keane.
