THE TERRITORIALS

The Awarua Rifles and Second Battalion Band held a church parade yesterday morning. Divine Service was conducted at the Don street Primitive Methodist Church by the Rev. W. Laycock. The parade states were Awarua Rifles: Lieut. Cooke and 35 .'men ; total 36. 2nd BaUafion Band : Bandmaster Llthgow and '36 bandsmen ; total 37. Total on parade. 73. During Sunday afternoon the Band of the 2nd Battalion O.R. rendered a select programme of music in the Botanical Gardens. The day was beautifully fine ami a large concourse of people assembled for tlxe function. The comprehensive muster, numbering 38 all ranks, gave the band full scope to exhibit their splendid musical possibilities and the rendering of tlxe many selections and marches was popularly received. The civic authorities have prohibited the placing of collectors at the various entrances to the guldens, but a collection taken up by tlxe bandsmen realised tlxe sum of £4 10s, which amount will go to the use of the Victoria Home authorities. The hand played under the guidance and baton of Bandmaster T. Llthgow.

INVERCARGILL CITY GUARDS. Oa Saturday the City Guards concluded the series of competitions for a clock presented by Col.-Sorgt. Bulman. Some keen interest was evinced in the match, which was rendered the more interesting by reason of the skilful handicapping of Oorp. Baldwin. The trophy was won by I'riv. T. Budget, a young shot with years of the pastime before him. The runner-up and tin; third member are also young shots, the three being jusl over the age limit provided hv the regulations, viIS. Carp. Baldwin did not compete in the series, although he bred effectively throughout, his scores reading per list under 20. 29. 20, 28, 20—145.
