Sir Maurice O’Rorke, M.L.C.. has received notification or his election as a vice-president of tl: - Historical Society of Dublin, which has been in existence since 1745. The appointment is a considerable distinction, there being no other colonial vice-presidents. Tho president of tbe.society is lord Ashbourne, and the vice-presidents include many distinguished personages in Ireland. Mr Kdward Towsey, who is making airangements in. connection with the visit of-the Norman Concert Company, arrived in Invercargill by the late express on Saturday.
A cable lias been received (says a New Plymouth wire) from Mr J. D. Henry, the well-known petrol expert, representing two or three wealthy financial groups, stating .that lie will leave England on December 2 for new Plymouth.
The Victorian Government has agreeo to give £250 towards a presentation to Beaurepaire, tho swimmer, on the ground that he is a good advertisement for the State.
Neyron Crippen. father of Dr Crippen. has died penniless and friendless as Los Angeles, in California. To the end he believed his son innocent.
A Sydney cable states that Mr Bell, manager of the North Coast Co., lias been' appointed managing director. He was formerly connected with the Union Company.
