Co.’s steamer Corinna arrived from Dunedin at 8 a.m. on Saturday. She loaded 5337 cases cheese. 630 sacks oats, 1 truck timber and 26 cases pres, milk, and sailed for Oamaru at 4 p.m. , The Union S.S. Co.’s steamer Rakanoa was to sail from Westport for Bluff on Saturday at 11 p.m. The Eederal-Houlder-Shire liner Morayshire, having discharged her inward cargo, sailed yesterday morning for Brisbane to load for Britain. The s.s. Wanaka is expected to leave Auckland about the end of this week. Sugar importers are requested to order a good supply as it will be her last trip this year. She will leave Bluft about the 3rd December, with grain -for the North, and then withdraw from the trade for her annual overhaul, and start again in January from the South. According to the London Shipping Gatette the connection between the shipping of Australia and New Zealand and the yards of the Clyde has never been so close as it has been all through this year. Already two vessels have been launched at Ardrossan for the North Coast Steam Navigation Company of Sydney : the large “ combination ” steamer Rotorua, at Dumbarton, for the New Zealand Shipping Company : the magnificent paddle steamer Weeroona, at Pointhouse. for the Huddart-Parker Proprietary, of Melbourne ; a couple of harbour service vessels, at Paisley, for Australian owners ; the big Australian United steamer Le.vuka, at Linthouse ; and Messrs Levers’ steamer Kulambangra, at Old Kilpatrick, for Sydney registry. After these there comes a list of orders placed within the past few months, including two New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamers at Port Glasgow-, and one at Dumbarton, one each for the Union Steam Ship Company at Campbelltown and Fairfield, as well as a steamer at Port Glasgow “ for New Zealand owners,” and a Union Company’s boat at Leith. The rudder of the new White Star liner Olympic will weigh about 100 tons, and the weight of the castings comprising the stern frame, rudder and brackets, amounts to 2SO tons, being CO tons heavier than those of any other steamer. Each engine crank shaft weighs 118 tons, bedplate 195 tons, the heaviest cylinder with liner 50 tons, and the wing propeller 38 tons. The weight of the casting for the turbine cylinder is 163 tons, and of the propeller, which is of solid bronze, 22 tons. Altogether 2,600,000 rivets were used in construction. 0.8.8. CO.
