THE WAIKARE.
OPHCEES AKD CREW REWARDED, (Per United Press Association). DUNEDIN. Jan. 14. The Union Company has promoted Mr Appleyard, second officer of the Waikare, to the position of first officer in recognition of his services in tlie launch immediately after the mishap. Members of the crew who were with him are to be given a monetary grant. The stewardesses, Miss Gash and Miss Fitzpatrick, her assistant, are to be promoted. Captain Newton is a passenger for Auckland by the Monowai to-day.
