INCENDIARISM AND THEFT.
RIVERTON BOY CONFESSES. A correspondent at Riverton wires Information that at the Police Court there yesterday afternoon, before Air C. E. Johnstone, J.P., Ernest Newton, 17 years of age, was charged with breaking into the premises of James Thistleton, a horse trainer, by whom he was employed, and stealing the sum of £l2 in money, and also with wilfully setting fire to the premises. Detective Cameron appeared to sustain the charge, and his request that the accused be remanded until the 21st inst. was granted by the Bench. It was' understood in the Court that tho stolen money had been recovered, and that the accused had confessed his guilt with regard to the charge of incendiarism. He had taken Detective Cameron to the place -where the stolen money had been concealed. No bail was forthcoming. Newton had previously been convicted of theft at Lumsden, and had been admitted lo probation.
