A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR. MR W. N. WILLIS WOUNDED. NEAR RANDWICK RACECOURSE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright z z z z SYDNEY, April 27. Received 27, 10.15 p.m. W. N. Willis, a leading figure in the late land scandals, was found stabbed in the scrub near Randwick at about midnight. The affair leaked out only this afternoon. Willis was alive but unconscious. He has two wounds in the left breast. Clark, a trainer for Willis, states that Willis was at bis cottage last night. He left there late in cheerful spirits. He was found by a stable band and conveyed to the cottage. Foul play was not suspected by those at the cottage and medical aid was not considered necessary till after, when Willis became delirious. It was then discovered that he had been stabbed. The affair is mysterious. Willis was to have appeared in Court to-day in connection with a case in ■which a man named Daly was charged with having attempted to extort money from Willis. The Judge ordered Willis to show' cause for failing to appear on his subpoena. Later on news of the stabbing leaked out.
