(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the borough meeting, hold on the third inst., a petition signed by the necessary number of electors was presented, asking the Council to take a poll on the tiuestion of fixing the factory half-holiday on Wednesday, being the day observed by shops and offices.— Request granted, and Town Clerk directed to attend to the same, and also to the Mayoral election, the statutory day for holding which being the 29th inst. It was resolved to express willingness to meet the directors of the Saleyards Company with the view of arranging the protective value to bo allowed for their yards erected on a borough endowment. Authority was given to write off ratos on property now occupied by the Methodist Church and on a domain reserve exempt by agreement from rates this year. The Town Clerk was directed to collect outstanding rates if necessary by Issuing summonses. It was resolved to give notice to rescind at next meeting the motion postponing consideration of Mrs Watson’s breach of building bylaw for a full meeting and to take the matter up at next meeting.
