I Eighteen Chinese in Johannesburg have been Sentenced to twenty lashes and seven years’ imprisonment for an attack on a homestead at Klpriversberg in March. A gang of Chinese attacked a solitary trooper stationed on the East Rand. Four were captured, but their comrades released them. The Earl of Elgin has forbidden the threatened railway rebates if the Cape and Natal persist.
