The Political Labour League Conference has decided that a Labour candidate should contest every si at at next election, and favoured a radical amendment of the Arbitration Act. The Ail Yachts Race was won by Magic, Cooya 2, Fleetwing B. The Rawhiti started from scratch. The limit yachts sailed splendidly, and over the lirst portion of the course easily maintained their advantage from the Rawhiti, which did not sail up to expectations, finishing sixth. Heavy storms, accompanied 1-y a phenomenal rainfall in the Carduar and Blayuey districts, did much injury to crops and property, many buildings being seriously damaged. CABLE MATTERS. BRISBANE, Jan. 29, Received 29th, 1D.19 p.m. Mr M/ilwartl, chief electrician for the Pacific cable, says the cable is working exceedingly well and the traffic was satisfactory as far as it went. At an early date changes would be made regarding tho handing in of messages, placing the Pacific on the same fooling as the Eastern Extension Company. He considers that cable companies have nothing to fear from wireless telegraphy as there is a great deal of uncertainly and the system is . also much slower, though it may prove useful in .isolated [duces where there Is insufficient inducement to lay a cable..
