The final of the singles between Gow (Tinia.ru) and Garforth (Goro) was for some ten beads evenly contested. The Ti-naru representative being 2 up. In the 1 Plh head Garforth led off with two touchers, but Gow drew a toucher which Garforth rested out with his last and lay one. Gow then trailed gently, scoring 2, making him 11 to Garforth's 8. On the 12th head Gow started with a toucher, the Clinton player making three splendid efforts to rest the winning shot—one to Gow. On the succeeding head Garforth drew a fairly good one which his opponent failed to displace. On the 14th head Garforth made good use of his first three bowls, but Gow saved the situation with his third bowl, his opponent being two heavy with his last—another single to Gow who was now 4 up. On Ihe .next head Garforth played poorly and Gow added two. The 10th head resulted in a brace to Gow. On the succeeding head Garforth notched one. On the 18th head the Tjmaru player scored a couple, making him 19 to Garforth's 10. On the next head Garforth unfortunately tunned in one of bis opponent’s bowls, thus settling the game in Gow’s favour. W. McLaren (Dunedin) played J. Tait (Taicri) for third prize and hud no difficulty in winning. The final in the doubles between Turnbull and Mclntyre (Taicri). and Mcllwrickj and Dali (ICaituna) was easily won by the ICaituna men who made every Post a winning post, the scone being 30 to 12 when Mclntyre resigned. The match proved rather a soft thing for the .South Island rinks, who won by 149 to 119. Scores : SINGLE-HANDED CHAMPIONSHIP. J. G. Gow (Timaru) 20, bent H. Garforth (Gore) 10.
