A Prohibition Fallacy
(To the Editor).: Sir,—ln a letter under the above heading Dr. Hodgkinson nukes some remrrks about a letter by ■“ Mother ” published in your columns some years ago. Your readers would naturally infer from the doctor's letter that “ Mother" had written some untenable propositions, whereas in that letter were strong arguments, supporter! by sound logic, in favour of No-license. Had the doctor written at the time he would have found tha Mother ” -was not to be so easily disposed of as ho thinks. I deny that she wrote false logic." But she will write no more letters in your columns, for she has left this scene of strife, the strife of good against evil, of right against wrong, of the weak against the strong—the strife in which she nobly laid down her life—and has gone to her reward. But her gentle spirit inspires me to reply that it Dr. Hodgkinson really believes that tho All-wise, our loving heavently Fatl.e'.l as through these thousands of years allowed His children to suffer the misery and wretchedness, woe and sorrow we see around us because i" the woman saw that the tree was good for food., and that it was pleasant to the eyes, .1.1 e '.-<e to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, ami did eat ; and gave also upon her husband with her, and he did eat,” one can scarcely wonder that the bitter cry of the widow and orphan does not appeal to his kindly heart, that the wail of the worse than widowed and fatherless does not impel him to join in the righteous crusade against Ibis monster evil—the drink.—l am, etc., COMRADE.
