Bank/ of England returns : Gold, coin, etc., £33,635,000 ; reserve, £24,908,000 ? percentage of reserve to liabilities, 47.*56; in circulation, £29,111,000 ; public deposits, £11,879,000 ; other deposits, k Government £15,630,000 ; ofihfer securities, £29,548,000. Three months’ bills are discounted at 2 J per cent. Consols, 90 l-16th. N.S.W. 3’s, 88 ; Victorian 3’s, 88£ rest unaltered.
The English wheat markets are very dull, the Continent quiet, and the American flat. Red winter, 93{s ; cargoes are slow at 31s 3d, the same being asked for May-June shipments. 'Australian, on spot, is scarce at 33s 3d. Flour is dull, owing to the pressure of sale of patents : London, 24s ; Glasgow, 24s to 24s Gd.-
Pig iron, 53s 9d per ton. Sugar is flat ; first marks, 14s lOd ; German, 12s lOd.
TCtlc Bradford vqool market is animated: common sixties, 24(1 ; supers , 24Jd ; forty-sixes, 15? d ; forties, 13|d. At the wool sales Oamraona realised 9sd per lb. Butter is dull : Danish, 98s to 100 s ; choicest N.Z., 93s to 94s ; Victorian, 925; N.S.W., 90s : Queensland, 88s. Cheese is slow of sale: N.Z-,‘55s to 565.
