Mataura Gun Club

The weather was anything but favourable for the above Club's inanimate autumn meeting, held on Wednesday afternoon in a paddock kindly lent by the President (Mr 11. Cameron). The money was divided as follows ; First, £lO ; second, £4 ; third, £1 ; the conditions being 21 birds, single nomination, and " star - allowed. There was a good attendance of the public, including a fair sprinkling of ladies. A tricky north-west wind, with occasional showers, greatly handicapped the limit man. The ’ first prize went to G. Gardiner (Gore), a promising shooter, who dusted his birds well, and at 19 out of 21 birds he had only used his second barrel twice—a most creditable performance considering the unfavourable conditions. The Kapuka men were again to the fore, D. C. Munro looking all over the winner until the last round, when nervousness no doubt accounted for ids failure. The first round brought in seven “ stars,” and after five rounds had been fired, the score showed that G. Gardiner, T. Double, D. C. Munro, and J. Graham had only missed two birds. .Several men retired at this stage. Following on, T. Double and J. Graham fell out, and in the last round the Kapuka man missed his bird, leaving the Goreite to break and win. The winner was greeted with a round of applause on dusting his winning bird. The arrangements in connection with the match were excellent. Refreshments were provided by the Club for visitors, and

a word of thanks is due to the secretary (Mr Alex. Gardiner), who was courteous and obliging....Mr W. R. Carver was referee, his decisions giving universal satisfaction.' Following are the scores HANDICAP INANIMATE MATCH OF

At the conclusion of the above match a gun, valued at £l2 12s, was shot for. Wheo both nominations had been fired A. Gardiner and T. Double each registered a possible. In the shoot-off the Mataura man won rather easily.
