The ladips of St. .Matthew’s Guild held one of their enjoyable socials in the Drill Hall on Tuesday evening, 21st inst.; The programme comprised u, Progressive Euchre Tournament for which there were 12 tables entered. The winners eventuated in Miss Eva Kingsland, first, and Mrs Shields, second, among the ladies, and Messrs H. Hamilton and Crockett respectively among the gentlemen. The trophies fell to Miss Roberts and Mr H.: Salmon. A song was contributed by Aliss B. Gilroy, a recitation by Air J. Dale, and Miss Nichol (Glenfoyle) gave a pianoforte solo. The intervals were filled up with dancing and the social was financially successful, as these gatherings usually are.

At Campbelltown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 21st inst., before W. G. Riddell, Esq., S.M., the following cases were disposed of, judgment going by default :—A. Hidland v. Jas. Harland, £1 Ids for goods supplied, 5s costs ; execu tors of the late John Dale v. James Wixon. sent'., £5 Ils Bd, 10s costs; McGruer, -Taylor and Co. v. Jas. Paterson, 19s 9d. 5s costs. In Peter Georgeson v. John Keinun. claim £lO 7s 3Jd for goods supplied, judgment was given for £6 1.4 s 9(1, and £1 costs. In Peter Georgeson v. Samuel Smith, defendant was ordered to pay balance of account for judgment summons £3 (Is Bd, on 11 th Alarch, in default seven days’ imprisonment. In the executors of late John Dale v. Robert Scollay. claim £6 9s 4d on judgment summons, amount was ordered to bi, paid in two monthly instalments of £3 Is Sd each on 14th Alarch and 14th April, oi in default seven days’ imprisonment.

The Bluff Guards held their annual sports at Ocean Beach on Wednesday, 22nd February, and though the weathei looked threatening the attendance oi Guards. Bandsmen, and the general public was good. The chief events were held on a track in front Of the freezing works and some keen contests were witnessed. Following were the chief events and winners Cadet Handicap—Cadet Shields, trophy presented by Messrs Mill and Co. . Guards' Handicap — Sergt. Valentine, trophy presented by Mr C. Sutherland r Bandsmen's Handicap—F. Wilson, trophy presented by Mr G. A. Whealler ; Open Handicap. F. Wilson, trophy presented hy Messrs ITice and Hulleid ; Officers and Non-Com.’s Handicap—Sergt. Valentine, troph.v presented by Mr D. C. Hamilton; Married Ladies’ Handicap—Mrs Dixon and Mrs Richards, trophies presented by Mi 11. Y. Chapman and Mrs. Mqody ; Single Ladies' Race—Miss I’reston and Miss Crozier, prizes presented by Mr I’owloy and Mrs Moody.:

There were also the usual jumping and other competitions, the prizes beings given by the N.Z. Loan Co., Southland Meat Co., Messrs Maud. C. Tulloch, Edginton, Skerrett, Steel, Dixon and Preston, Urwin and Roderique, Parsons and others.

The Band played an attractive jirogramme and altogether a very pleasant afternoon was spent, by young and old. In the evening a social was held in the Drill Hall, and after n spell of dancing, C'apt. Nichol presented the prizes to Hit successful cojnpetitors at the afternoon's sport.s. During the evening Corpl. Wright and Priv. Burke gave a double step dance, Priv. Wright the Cake Walk and Miss Valentine a song. Dancing was kept lift (ill close on midnight.
