Mr Arnold received the following telegram from the Otago Trades Council — i" , , tu »J« vr «l that order lor steamer for i-ake Wakatipu has been sent Home. A Pledge was given twelve months ago that tenders would be called in New Zealand. Kindly explain." Mr Arnold has replied — Absolutely no foundation 'for ruiiiour. 1 lans for steamer wil] not bo ready for some weeks yet. Tenders will be called for in the colony, and if work can be done sat sfactorily and at reasonable cost, either by contract or in the Government workshops it will *iot go out of "ow Zealand."
