Barlow, one of the assistant district commissioners of Nigeria., , rev ports that a British column^ ing of 30 white men and 3QQ native rank and file, 4 maxims, and 2 smaller guns, successfully attacked the town of Dunni on the morning of July 27. The fighting lasted until dark, tho opposition of the natives being most determined. House to house lighting went on throughout, tho day. Tho town was completely destroyed. The bodies of 700 of the enemy wero counted. Theso included thoso of tho deported Sultan of Sokoto and tho majority of his chiefs. The British losses were :K LI led , Major Marish, four rank and 'Jile and six carriers. Wounded, Captain Hamilton. -Browne (severely, Wit progressing favQurably) j Major, Plummer, Captain Lewis (slightly), 62 lank and file, and, seven carriers/
