Wilcrod Badger solicitor, convicted last session of criminal libel, was formally remanded a week for sentence. When sentencing one of those who hud pleaded guilty, m the lower court, tho judge said it must not be understood that accused could obtain probation simply because tho 01---fences a g^o.^^ g William Dickie was found not cuilty on a charge of attempted rape at Kauipoi. and guilty on a charge of assaulting and beating the same girl, lie received three months' imprisonment, his Honour remarking that the jury had taken tin exceedingly charitable view of the accuseds crime.— Joprn Wakeneld. who pleaded guilty to having committed a breach of the Chattels Act by selling chattels which he hud given as security for a loan, and also getting ij'Jd by false 'pretences, vras ttentencod to six months' imprisonment.— Llenrjr Wfigstatl. who pleaded " Not Guilty " to a charge of horse-stealing Avns sentenced to six months' Imprisonment. — John Whiteueld was acquitted on a' charge of breaking into 1 a shop «nd stealing goods.
