Football Notes.

(BY PUNTER.)

The Referees' Association is now n live body, and lam pleased to hear that a plethora of capable officials will be available for all matches this season. After an unbroken record ot defeats last year, the- old, Blues commenced the hew reason with a popular win— thanks to J. Christophers' fine place-kicking. The I.F.C. ...forwards showed good staying powers, evidently the result of training, and when they acquire a little more combination they ought to hold their own against the majority of the teams.

The Athletics do not belie their name; they possess quite a number of wellknown sprinters, and some of their backs should get into the trials ait the end of 'the season and perhaps gain their maroon caps. Some of their rear-guard have a. bad habit, however,, bl" overrunning the ball, and the quicker this defect is remedied the better will the Greens record be.

The team that the Brits, put in the fi<Sd last week compared very poorly with their former combinations, the burly forms of the Purdues being conspicuous by tMeir absence. For the sake of his club, and also the province, I should llfce to see Charley don the jersey again.

It strikes me that the plucky lit^e Cambridge club will have an uphill fight this season. They are yet oji the young and light side to successfully cope with such formidable opponents as the Star and Pirates, but if they persevere their day will cc&je.

"The Star firsV fifteea stUI retains a good proportion of veterans, and they intend to make great efforts to continue to occupy their wonted position at the top of the tree. ~. T With nearly all tlffer last year's team available, and the valuable addition of I'ejter Ward faniongst their rearguard, the? Pirates are determined' to give, the blue and white "a go" for premiership honours, and the result ot Wednesday week's contest will go a long way towards deciding the championship.

On uccount of 'seven tennis competing for tho senior premiership, it bus been decided that, after- the first round, Uio two lowest shall drop out in ordur that tlic second round bo iiuished in ample time for trial matches.

Tlic Scottish thrco-quartcr line for <-Ue International match against England (says London Sportsman) will he one of tho curiosities of modern football, all four players bring Colonial horn.
