Thursday, 29th Januaey. . The fortnightly meeting was attended by Vfossrs J. Hay (Chief Commissioner), A Kinross, J. Mclntyre, D. King, and A. Baldey. The Southland Education Board requested reservation of sec. 63, block 8, Campbelltown Hundred, as a school site. that, provided the section ia not required by the County Council, the Governor be recommended to reserve and vest it in the Education Board. „ Wright, Stephenson and Co, on behalf of owners of Castle Rock station, applied to purchase sec. 93, Taringatura district.— iJovernmenfc to be recommended to obtain power to sell the.section in the next " Reserves Enabling and Disposal Bill." J. M. Price offered £20 per annum for license over p.r. No. 302 c; Eyre districtResolved that the rentals of runs Nos. 191 b, 302 c, and 394 a, as advertised for sale in August last, be reduced by a third and reoffered at auction,, and if not sold declared open to application At such reduced rates. The ranger was instruoted to report on Abram McKenzie's offer, at the rAte of £1 per annum, for, the right to temporarily occupy house on -section 72, block 3, Oteramika, formerly held by Wm. Nicol. Warden McCarthy wrote re the proposed bush reserve at Orepuki, for use of miners, applied for last April and referred to him for his opinion. He stated that as the Orepuki Miners' Association has not yet decided where ib wanted the reserve, he returns the correspondence. — Received. In reference to sections 31 to 36 and 3S*to 40, Colao Bay Village, formerly withdrawn from selection at the instance uf the Orepuki Miners' Association, Warden'McCarthy wrote stating that he sees no objection to their being offered on Lease in Perpetuity, Sections to be re-offered as Y.H. allotments at 10s per acre.*John McLean's application to purchase a small island in the Oreti River, opposite his property at Caroline was referred to the ranger for report. The following applications for land were granted : — Hugh Keenan, section 6, block 8, Longwood ; William Bradley, sees. 108, 110 and 115, Takafclmo; John Arthur, part of seo. 13, block 15, Longwood (at same price as Government paid for land), and Samuel Clarke, sec. 2a, block 5, Wyndham. The following applications under the Mining Districts Land Occupation Act were granted:— J, W. Wilson, 100 acres in bock •2, Longwood; Charles Wilson, 100 acres, same block; Harry Finn, 2 acres, same block; J. F. Butler, 100 acres, same block, and Mrs Alice Lapham, 100 acres in block 17. Jaoobs River Hundred.

On Mr John Moffett's application Harry Finn was granted exemption from residence on his section in block 2, Longwood. The following transfers were approved : — Sec. 731, Hokonui-Centre Bush, from Jas. Campbell to J. W. Snell, and sac. 16, Hook 4, Longwood, from Mrs J. C. Vigors to Mrs R. S. Finlayson. John Daley's surrender of sections in block 6, Waimatuku Township was accepted. It was resolved that the owner of sections 69 and 83, block 5, Invercargill Hundred, be called on to show cause why the section should not be forfeited for non-residence and insufficient improvements. Forfeiture was rescinded ih the following cases— C. S. Smith, section 57. Waiau ; Alex. Cdlder, sections 7 and 8, block 5, Waikawa ; F. H. Wilson, seotion 13, block 5, Hirstfield, and H. Hirst, section 30, block 4, Longwood. J. D. Shepherd applied for grazing license over 300 acres in block 10, Oteramika Hundred.—Approved at £1 per annum, subject to Mr Massey's written consent being obtained.
