The Rifle Clubs' Growl.
[Pbb United Prkss Association] *■ r Wellington, Jan. 30. Replying to certain grievances put before him by rifle clubs regarding the programme for the Trentham meeting, the Premier point* out that a complaint aboutthe amount of prize money not being fairly distributed between rifleclubs and volunteers is misleading, for, baeed on numbers, rifle clubs would oJy receive about £150, whereas £560 ib now allotted for events which they may compete in. So far as the statement that many matches are not open to rifle clubs is concerned the Premier remarks that, taking into consideration the relative num- v bers of volunteer companies and rifle clubs and their value to the State, there is a very liberal proportion for the latter, inasmuch 46 eight matches are open to rifle cluba and nine restricted to volunteers only. Mr 9eddon says he is advised that it would be unwise to alter the present regulations in order to substitute an age limit for the present five miles, limit for volunteer corps for 'rifle clubs, as such a step would injure volunteering.
