The Bluff Waterworks

Messrs T. M. ATacdonald &, Sons forwarded to yesterday's meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board a copy of the writ and statement of claim served on tne Campbelltown Borough Council re tne waterworks. . Messrs Hall, Stout, and Lillicrap, solicitors for thd Borough Council, . submitted proposals, without prejudice to legal proceedings, for the acquisition of the waterworks, to try and effect by amicable means what otherwise would require protracted and expensive legal ' proceedings. These were :— (1) The Council to take over the waterworks at £3600, to be paid for in six months, either in cash or debentures bear, ing 4 per cent, interest ; (2) that the Council supply the Board With water for shipping at a price to be agreed on by the Council and Board, or by arbitration, the shipping supply to be the first claim on the water ; (3) any other water required by the Board to be paid for at the usual rate. An early meeting between the bodies was requested.

Mr Watson, in moving that the letter be referred to the committee for consideration, said that this was the first time that the Council had offered to supply the Board with water, though a statement had appeared in the press to the contrary. It would, be injudicious to go into the merits of the case at present, but any proposal to alienate the supply of Shipping water from* the Board would not be very acceptable to members. The letter was entitled to courteous consideration, and the committee could deal with the question involved.

Mr Mitchell seconded the motion, which was carried.
