+_- (fbom our own correspondent.) The contractor for the Waimumu eludpo chanuel will start at once and if the weather is at all favourable hopes to have the contract completed in good time. Building is not s>o brisk as it was a month or two ago, and a number of houses are empty, bub the rabbit season is commencing ann will soon make things brisker. Sickness i* rather prevalent, and the want of a resident medical man is much felt. There is some talk of postponing the horticultural show for a week or two on account of the backward season. At the Borough Council's meeting on Tuesday the Gore Borough Council intimated that they had decided to take eleotiical power from the Southland Frozen Meat Co'h works at Mataura, and asked permission to erect a transmission line in the borough or Mabawa. It waa not yet decided whether the line would be carried along the road or along the railway, but they would advise later on this point. — The matter was hold over. Me3srs Mackenzie and Wilton forwarded plans and specifications for the proposed Athenaeum and Borough Couucil Chambers. The reading-room and library are both fair-sized iooms, and will be well lighted. The want of a reading-room has been long felt, both by residents and visi > tors. The plans were a.pp oved of, and it was resolved to invite offers for the erection of the building. Mr McNab, M.H.R, wrote that he had communicated with the Minister as to establishing a telephone bureau in ihe township, and on receiving a reply will let the Council know what has been decided on.
