The 8.8 Fi|eahire will leave Bluff for Lon3on about 24th February. Captain Felgate, lately of the Typer steamer Mimiro, has been transferred to the company's new liner Marere, now on hor way to Austra'ia. A proposal to put a fast turbine steamer in the Melbourne-Launcestoh service has reached an important stage, and a definite announcement on the subject may be ex peoted shortly after the settlement of the mail contract.
On the voyage of the s.s Empire from Yokohama to Melbourne, the ship was hailed by four fishing boati, with 16 men mi board. They were iv a serious plight, having been blown out to sea. Tne Baipirj picked up the distressed men with great difficulty, as they could render little assiptance themselves, because they were exhausted with exposure and hanger Th-jy received every attention and were subsequently landed at Hong Kong.
